My name is Isaac Rabinovitch (do not worry about the pronunciation of my last name!). I'm a professional technical writer and general technology geek. This is my personal web site.
Back when the Web was The Big New Thing, lots of people started personal web sites. They soon found that maintaining a web site is a lot of work, especially if you want something more interesting than a few static HTML pages. Eventually people drifted onto sites that offered free social networking, blogging, and information sharing. These now make more sense for most people than personal sites. They're less work and they provide a richer online experience than anybody can achieve on their own.
So why do I have a personal site? A bunch of reasons.
Right now the site is in relaunch mode. (I neglected it for a long time, and there was really nothing worth saving.) If I were just concerned with putting stuff online, I'd start by installing a content management system. But part of what I want to do is learn about various CMSs, so I don't want to commit to using one particular CMS for site infrastructure. I may settle on one CMS for everything later, but for now, I'll maintain the basic site framework the old-fashioned way, with a set of primitive HTML files.
Well, not so primitive. More on HTML authoring here.
